The worst part of traveling is often times getting to your actual destination. With airfare being at an all time high, many travelers are now forced to cut back on the amount of vacations they take each year. Driving has historically been a great alternative to flying but as gas prices are also higher than ever before, the trade off is barely worth it.
If you’re anything like me and appreciate the ease of flying, take note of these tips that can save you a great deal of money on flights.
- Pay attention to taxes on flights! Taking a connecting flight rather than a direct flight may seem like it’s saving you some money. Chances are, it’s probably not. Finding a direct flight will save you quite a bit of money since the taxes are cheaper. Which airports you fly into and out of will also have an effect on how high your taxes are. Airport taxes are determined based on individual cities so be sure to check various local airports before booking your next flight!
- Don’t underestimate the power of a travel agent. Although online travel sites are becoming increasingly more common when booking flights and hotels, they don’t always have access to the same discounts and promotions as travel agents. Not only does using a travel agent often save money, but it makes planning a vacation much easier.
- Book your flights around 3 pm on Tuesdays.Travelers can anticipate finding deals on airfare when booking at this team because most airlines post sales on Monday evenings. The prices, however, are not reflected on their website until 3 the following day.
- Utilize Twitter. You’d be surprised by the amazing deals you can find simply by searching for a relevant hashtag. Try something along the lines of “#traveldeals”.
I hope these tips help you when booking your next vacation! Have any tips I left off the list? Let me know!
